Halfway There

Sophomore year done.
Yes!

This year was absolutely crazy, I learned a lot. Although I don't feel as though I know nearly enough for getting ready to start my junior year. Shouldn't I know stuff now? Like, how to be grown up?

God provided in amazing ways this year, I'll go into detail about how amazing that was to watch in a little while. For instance though, I still owe no money to my school at all, and I got a job over the phone, with no interview--so I didn't have to stay at school this summer to work.

I had great roommates, great classes, great teachers, and great friends (well, I still have great friends, I guess you could say I made some great friends) Two of whom are actually on their way to Ghana right now. They're going to be working with a missionary family and some local pastors. Their trips are always insanely busy, please keep the whole team in your prayers as they serve God in Ghana, West Africa.

God is always good.

Ukraine

Priviette!
Hello everybody! I am finally going to let you all know what happened in Ukraine! :) Sorry it took me so long. I'm going to start with this post, an overall review of what happened/ what I learned. The rest of the posts will be in date order of the trip and written as journal entries.
Love you guys, thanks for praying for me.

* * *

God made this trip all girls and I am so glad that He did. He put me with young women who are completely sold out for Him and Him alone, seeking Him. They are the "real deal." Weather they know it or not, God used them to help me grow, to see my faults an my failures very plainly and slightly painfully. God humbled me, showed me my faults for what they really are-sin in most cases.
Not only did God use them to help me grow, but just being around other believers who are doing what God wants them to, and loving every minute of it, is absolutely AMAZING! The conversations were good, fun and constructive. The atmosphere is almost electric. It is very hard to explain but the servants hearts, the loving God, the joy of serving Him just filled the air. It was AWESOME!
God is good, "Slava Boga"
On this trip I learned a lot from the others

July 16th

I am laying on my bed at the Mir Hotel in Kharkiv, Ukraine!

The flight to Vienna was okay, I guess I slept a lot but it certainly didn't feel like it! The plane was set up: 2 seats, aisle, 3 seats, aisle, 2 seats. And I got the lucky ticket and got to sit in the middle of the middle!!! I sat next to one of the girls on our team (Jacque) and a stranger so it was a little hard to sleep. It was also a very very warm flight. I watched the end of Toy Story 2 and tried to sleep.
I get motion sickeness, but it only showed up on my flight from St. Louis to Chicago and the final landing in Kharkiv, so God was gracious in that area for me!

We went to dinner at the Garza's a family with IBJM who are from Mexico. They are so sweet! They spoke limited English though, so Mariia who speaks at least Russian, English and Spanish, translated for us.

We sang our Russian Songs for them, they sang "Blessed Assurance" and another song in Russian for us.

The story of how they got their apartment is very cool!
(Their son's name is Israel) The Landlady asked why they were in Ukraine. They told her they were Christians and she asked them "What kind?" They answered "Baptist"
It turns out that she is a Jewish believer who had been praying that she could rent to a Christian family. When she found out they were missionaries to the Jews she began to cry.
God is so good!

Okay so it was a bit warm in Kharkiv but we got a fan in our hotel room so that was an amazing blessing.

So, that night we found out "How Ukrainians can tell the difference between Americans and Ukrainians" (other than the language of course) its like this:

American = :D Ukrainian= :

According to Mariia, you tell the difference because Americans are "happy."
This very much is an overflow of their culture. You don't smile, say hi or nod at anyone you don't know. If a girl makes eye contact and smiles at a guy, he'll think she likes him. If she smiles at a girl, the girl would think she was "weird" according to Mariia.
That was a bit of a challenge since I'm so used to just smiling at people...oh well. Tomorrow we'll be handing out tracts and invitations to the "Why Christians Should Love the Jews" conference.

1 Year Down

Well, here I am! Back from PCC, and my word a lot has happened. There's too much for me to say, and I know I could never remember it all.
School
roomates

It was GREAT. I absolutely loved it. eh, most of the time anyway :) My classes were awesome (I didn't have to take a science class and I didn't fail PE or Speech so it's all good).

My roommates both semesters were great. My first semester one of my roomates was a graduating senior. She was a great testimony to me and a great help. She made my first semester absolutely WONDERFUL.
I switched rooms during the second semester to be with one of my friends-DANA!!! :) Who was also a great roomie!-- And her roomate Sharon. It was a lot of fun :) We had pineapple with sunglasses, discovered we liked Peanut butter and pickle sandwiches and just had a great time overall.

What is great is that it moved me to Griffith Tower which has rooms about 1/3 the size of Bradley tower (where I was originally). I wasn't sure I'd like it but I like it better than Bradley :) I like having only around...70ish girls on a floor compared to 100...ish.

Academics
Classes were AMAZING
Mr. Zila and Mr. Sleeth and MIss Allnutt are the BEST!
History of Civ with Mr. Zila was fantastic. He was great at making his point :) Very good at explaining the differences between Communism and Socialism. LOVED it!

New Testament Survey with Mr. Sleeth was also fantastic, a great teacher who let me ask him about a dozen questions :)

Miss Allnutt!!! English class was fun. nuff said.

Overall I did pretty well, first quarter of the 2nd semester was rough but pulled it back up for the second half. Made Dean's List 3 times :)

My history final though was AMAZING. It was my last final and so I studied more
for the stuff before it. (Still hadn't gotten the hang of studying before finals week) Anyway, I knew that I was
not ready when I went in to take the test. Went through the first page and
guessed most of it, most weren't even educated guesses because I had no idea. Pretty much all I knew was stuff that
had to do with WWII. I prayed "Lord just help me pass" and kept going. I knew a
little bit more as I went but still wasn't comfortable. Got to the end of the
test and answered two questions wrong, those I was sure of. :) That evening I
checked my grade online. 99% I seriously thought that he had posted someone
else's grade in my account. I checked off and on for the next 2 or 3 days
expecting it to change. The only thing I can figure is that the last two
questions were only worth 1/2 a point since it was a 100 question test. That
means I answered the other 98 questions over content (starting from the Russian
Czars to Modern Day) correct. I know I did not know that material :) God let me
pass it and pass it well :)

But, I loved my classes, and I get to take my first Missions class next semester!!
And it is true: The more you feel like an idiot while performing your speech, the better a grade you get :)
Oh, and I changed my broad field (similar to a minor) to Elementary Education!

Friends
I made quite a few friends :) Dana of course (met on Facebook and then shared a room), Julie and Mike (Work will not be nearly as much fun w/out you Julie!) Amanda and Candace (Yay Printshop!?) To name a very few :) It's way fun!
I also met this guy who sat in front of me at the workers meeting...and then sat in front of me for 1st hour History...then I went downstairs to 2nd hour Math and there he was again! Sat right in front of me! We've been dating 7 months now. Ross Slane, my best friend ever! He's pretty cool, a missions/pastoral major from Ohio. He's off to Ghana for the next two weeks so please pray for him and his team.

Hmm...what else to say....don't know...think I'm done for the evening. Night all!

busy busy busy

What's new everybody?

Not much has happened since my last post...
I had my last day at work which was pretty good, it was really long though...
I overflowed the coffee machine which I though was somewhat appropriate because that was how I started working at QT. :)
Sunday was the start of the missions conference, Monday we took some pictures, Tuesday my sisters had to do school (mwa ha ha ha) Tomorrow I'm going to go see "Shorts" with Grandma and then we're going to hang out 'till church that night. Then I get to hang out with Melissa!
Thursday going out to Who Knows Where.
Friday Missions Conference,
Saturday hanging out around Main Street with some friends.
Sunday Last day of the missions conference.
Then On Friday I LEAVE FOR COLLEGE! HOW SCARY IS THAT!

It still hasn't really sunk in for me that I'm actually going to college, kinda the same un-realness that I had when I was going to Peru.

Well, I think that's all for tonight.
night!
